Once the anaesthetic takes effect, the surgeon makes the columellar incision, lifts the skin, and works methodically through the structural changes agreed in your plan. Cartilage may be sculpted, repositioned, or supplemented with grafts taken from your own tissue (septum or ear). Bone may be carefully rasped or fractured and repositioned. Once all adjustments are complete, the skin is redraped and the incisions are closed with fine sutures.
After surgery you will rest in a comfortable recovery area and, where applicable, in your arranged accommodation. A splint is placed over the nose to support healing and is typically removed after seven to ten days.
Recovery After Open Rhinoplasty in Turkey
Most patients are surprised by how manageable recovery is when they are well prepared. Here is a realistic timeline:
Days 1–3: Some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are normal. Pain is well controlled with medication. You will rest and keep your head elevated.
Days 7–10: The splint and any external sutures are removed. Swelling is still present but significantly improved. Many patients feel comfortable enough to fly home around this stage, subject to their surgeon’s clearance.
Weeks 2–4: Visible bruising resolves. Swelling continues to reduce gradually. Most patients feel confident in social settings.
Months 3–6: The nose settles noticeably. The tip, which takes longest to refine, begins to show its final character.
Month 12–18: Final result. Swelling has fully resolved and the scar is at its most faded.
Askeroglu Health Group coordinates your full aftercare plan, including follow-up consultations, communication with your surgeon, and guidance throughout your recovery — whether you are still in Istanbul or back home.
Why Choose Turkey for Open Rhinoplasty?
Turkey is now one of the top three global destinations for rhinoplasty. Each year tens of thousands of international patients — from the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond — travel to Istanbul for nose surgery. The reasons are consistent:
Surgical expertise: Turkish rhinoplasty surgeons train to the highest international standards. Many have completed fellowships or training in the US or Europe and bring that knowledge back to their practice.
Cost: A procedure that costs £8,000 to £15,000 in the UK or $10,000 to $20,000 in the US can be performed to equivalent or higher standards in Istanbul at a fraction of the price. This includes hospital fees, anaesthesia, and aftercare.
Accreditation: Istanbul’s leading hospitals hold JCI accreditation — the international gold standard in hospital safety and quality. You are not compromising on safety by choosing Turkey; in many cases, you are accessing better facilities than you would at home.
Experience: Istanbul’s surgeons perform rhinoplasty at very high volume, and in surgery, volume and experience are directly correlated with outcome quality.
